Arthrex Nanoscope System
Arthrex, a leader in arthroscopy, was looking to develop their next generation of tools. The goal: create a small form factor arthroscope which supports comfortable usage in multiple joint locations. A smaller and lighter device which is single-use to be used both in a traditional OR and in an office setting for outpatients.
Working in tandem with engineers a new form factor was developed for the Nanoscope, leveraging a chip-on-tip camera. Through a series of physical models, assessed by a spectrum of representative users, a sleek and efficient shape was developed. The controls for operating the scope were updated, making it easier to recognize the appropriate controls by touch and in either hand.
The control system was developed to users across the variety of settings it may be used. It can fold open and support itself on a work surface in the office, or be mounted vertically to a cart or stand for easier use in an OR.
